Title: Computational Vaccinology
Abstract: Immunology is amongst the best studied areas of biology, yet vaccinology remains largely empirical. We can describe immune response to vaccines but we cannot predict the immunoreactive components of pathogens with any confidence. To achieve this we need to move to sophisticated and predictive systems biology models of the immune response. Informatics can streamline vaccine discovery but crucial biophysical insight remains elusive. We need directed experiments supporting development of accurate and reliable immunoinformatic method. We will illustrate this conjecture by exploring epitope and antigen prediction, antigen presentation, and adjuvant discovery.
WHEN: Friday March 25th, 3pm
WHERE: MOAC seminar room, Coventry House
