Joanna's main area of research interest is the emotional wellbeing of parents of children with learning or developmental disabilities. She is currently working on the Positive Family Connections online programme which was co-produced with family carers. This programme aims to enhance family relationships in families with a child with a developmental disability aged between 8-13. The programme is delivered by family carers, for family carers.
Dr Joanna Griffin is an Assistant Professor in the Centre for Educational Development, Appraisal and Research (CEDAR) and a parent carer. As well as research, Joanna is a Counselling Psychologist and runs a clinical practice, mainly supervising other counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists. She created the website www.affinityhub.uk to signpost to emotional support for family carers and provides webinars and consultancy on parent carer wellbeing. Joanna established a network of professionals with an interest in wellbeing in this client group. She is the author of a book, Day by Day: Emotional Wellbeing in Parents of Disabled Children, which is based on her personal and professional experience, including her doctoral research on the topic.
