How do I use this calendar?

In Conversation with Arun Advani
The Shard, London

The Department of Economics is delighted to be hosting our annual Economics Alumni event at the Shard, London, with Arun Advani. Join us for an evening of topical conversation followed by an opportunity to engage with Arun and your fellow alumni at a drinks reception after the event.

Arun will discuss his research on taxation and fiscal policy, touching on his experiences advising political parties.

Arun Advani - Associate Professor, Department of Economics

Dr Arun Advani is an Associate Professor in the Economics Department at the University of Warwick. He is also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies, a Visiting Fellow at the International Inequalities Institute, Research Associate of the CAGE Research Centre, CESifo Research Affiliate, and Inequalities theme leader at the Warwick Behaviour Spotlight.

He studies issues of inequality, tax compliance, and tax design, with a focus on those with high incomes or wealth. His research on non-doms, capital gains tax, and the use and abuse of trusts to conceal asset ownership has been quoted across the media, including the FT, Times, Economist, Telegraph, Guardian, Sun, and Mirror. His work has also informed debates on tax policy and the Budget in the House of Commons and the House of Lords.

Arun is co-chair of the Discover Economics campaign, aiming to increase the diversity of people who study and work in economics. He is also on the Editorial Board of the Economics Observatory.

Archie Hall - Britain Economics Correspondent

Archie Hall writes for The Economist with a focus on the British economy, covering macroeconomic trends, monetary and fiscal policy, and financial markets. He joined the paper in 2024, having previously worked as a macro investor at Bridgewater Associates and at the Financial Times. He graduated from Harvard and is two-time world debating champion.
