This reading group will discuss the Introduction and Chapter 1 of Segato’s seminal book.

The introduction situates the book as a collection of decolonial essays which present a critique of coloniality and the practice of “responsive anthropology.” Chapter 1 explores Aníbal Quijano’s concept of the coloniality of power. It highlights the continuing influence of colonial power structures in modern institutions, knowledge systems and structures of contemporary society.
