How do I use this calendar?

Philosophy Department Balloon Debate

You are warmly invited to our next Philosophy Balloon Debate. What is a balloon debate, you ask? Some philosophical folk are trapped on a sinking hot air balloon. Introduction to Economics
Online

In partnership with the Bank of England, Discover Economics and the Warwick Economics Summit, we are delighted to invite you to a free, interactive event for 16-18 year old students and their teachers.

Date: Wednesday 3 February 2021
Time: 17:00 - 18:30
Location: Online (MS Teams)

The Introduction to Economics event aims to provide 16-18 year old students and their teachers with an exciting opportunity to discover more about economics as a subject, experience an interactive taster lecture delivered by the Department of Economics and hear from current undergraduate student what it's like to study economics at university. There will also be chance to hear from economists about the wide-ranging work they do and the possible career opportunities open to economists.

Students will also be able to gain useful advice and guidance on how to apply for university, including how to draft a personal statement as well as having the opportunity to ask question to an Admissions Tutor.

*Attendees of this event will also be eligible to attend the Warwick Economic Summit for free on 5-7 February 2021. Tickets are limited therefore please secure your place now and use the code WESBOE1618. More information can be found here.

360 Lecture with Elina Ribakova

The Department of Economics is pleased to announce a guest lecture by a former student of the Department – Elina Ribakova, as part of the 360 Guest Lecture Series 2020/21 for this academic year.

Professor Caroline Elliott will introduce the speaker and chair the Q&A session at the end of the lecture.

About the speaker

Elina is Deputy Chief Economist at the Institute of International Finance in Washington. She directs the IIF’s economic research on global emerging markets.

Elina was previously a visiting fellow at Bruegel, where her research focused on financial markets, emerging markets and central banks. Prior to that, she held senior level roles in economic research at a diverse set of financial institutions, most recently with Deutsche Bank in London as Head of EEMEA Research, as well as leadership positions in other international financial institutions.

Elina also taught graduate and undergraduate courses at the Stockholm School of Economics and given guest lectures at the London School of Economics, New Economic School in Moscow and Chicago Booth in London. Ms Ribakova began her career as an economist at IMF headquarters in Washington D.C.

Elina graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Stockholm School of Economics, funded by a Swedish Government Scholarship.

Elina, a Chevening Scholar, received her Master’s in Economics, University of Warwick in 1999 and was awarded the Shiv Nath Prize for outstanding contribution to research in economics.
