We will be hosting two virtual open days to help you find out more about our practice areas, clients, vacation schemes and training contract offering. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions about a career in law throughout the event, as well as tips on creating a successful application. These are open to university students and graduates.

You will have an opportunity to meet and discuss what it is like to work in different sectors with representatives from a wide range of employers. Employers include, FTI Consulting, NERA, CMA, Southwest Water, Economic Insight, Compass Lexecon, FCA, CEPA, Cornerstone, Mercer, Fathom Consulting and Next Energy Group

Employer Presentations

These will be held in Panorama 3 and we will have a number employers delivering presentations on various economics related topics. After each presentation there will be a 10 minute Q&A with that employer who will clarify any questions or uncertainties you may have. We will be seating for the presentations on a 'first come, first seated' basis.

Keynote Speaker in collaboration with CAGE - John Burn Murdoch, Chief Data Reporter at the Financial Times

John Burn-Murdoch is the Chief Data Reporter at the Financial Times. He is renowned as a pioneering data journalist, a job involving the processing of large amounts of data, enabling readers to comprehend and digest information which paints big pictures and tells nuanced stories alike. John has worked at the Financial Times since 2013. Prior to that he worked for The Guardian and for Which? magazine having started his career as a sports reporter for the Doncaster Free Press. He is also a visiting lecturer at City, University of London, covering topics as diverse as story development, web scraping, data cleaning and digital cartography. John’s educational background is an MSc in Data Science from the University of Dundee, an MA in Interactive Journalism from City, University of London, and for his undergraduate studies a BSc in Geography from Durham University.

An Introduction to John's Work

During the Covid-19 pandemic John’s reporting driven by analysis and interpretation of public health and other data indicating the likely course and impact of the public health crisis became a touchstone for decision makers, pundits, and ordinary people across the world. The Financial Times audience rose from its baseline of thousands into the millions, as John’s Covid-19 trajectory tracker charts informed public debate and impacted decision making across all sectors of the economy and public life.

He has also recently worked on topics including:

* The Tories have become unmoored from the British people

* Economics may take us to net zero all on its own 

* Britain and the US are poor societies with some very rich people 

* Britain faces growing competition to attract global talent

* Death notices for the city are premature
