You are invited to join us in the Law Student Hub for a Brunch and Study session on Wednesday 17 May from 10.30am - 12.30pm. There will be cake and fruit available. We hope you can then use the session to work together, and maybe even work in those groups afterwards!

This session provides time for you to focus on your own work without interruptions - you are particularly encouraged to silence your mobile, email and other communications during this work time. We will display a counter enabling you to use the Pomodoro technique of 50 minutes work followed by 10 minutes break (repeated), to have 2.5 hours of uninterrupted study - you can find out more hereLink opens in a new windowLink opens in a new window.

There will also be coffee, tea and biscuits throughout the session.

PAIS welcomes the public, and those from across faculties, to a hybrid talk by Jack Copley titled, ‘Decarbonising the Downturn: The Contradictions of Green Capitalism Today’.

As Copley describes: “Avoiding catastrophic global warming requires the decarbonisation of the world economy. But this green transformation faces a series of intersecting obstacles posed by capitalism’s long-run developmental tendencies, including entrenched economic stagnation and the proliferation of surplus populations. Pursuing decarbonisation in this context will test the ability of capitalist states to govern while maintaining their liberal form.”

Copley completed his PhD at Warwick with PAIS in 2018 and is now Assistant Professor in International Political Economy in the School of Government and International Affairs, Durham University. He is the author of Governing Financialization: The Tangled Politics of Financial Liberalization in Britain (Oxford, 2021).
