The 5th State of the Union
The State of the Union conference, organised by the European University Institute (EUI), is an annual event for high-level reflection on the European Union.
The conference’s fifth edition brings together leading academics, policy-makers, civil society representatives, business and opinion leaders to discuss four main topics, all confronting the future of Europe.
Professor Tom Sorell was involved in the discussion of the Surveille Grant main results and was interviewed on the conference's main topics.

As part of the EU funded project Surveille, Professor Tom Sorell, Dr Katerina Hadjimatheou and Dr John Guelke visited Google, Reddit, Mozilla, Stanford, and Berkeley to discuss topics such as Hacktivism, the Right to be Forgotten, Customer profiling, and the Value of Privacy.
Successful Integrator Project Bid
Professor Tom Sorell has been succesful in an Integrator project bid to use cross-cutting ethical themes to connect seven successful projects in the PCCS Ethics and Security Call, and to communicate their results to a policy, practitioner and wider public audience.
IDIRA project ethics board
Professor Tom Sorell has been appointed as External Ethics advisor on the European Commission research project IDIRA. This project's main focus is on the interoperability of data and emergency procedures in response to large scale disasters.
