Postgraduate students have three module options on the Academic English Enhancement Programme: Foundations of Academic English, Academic English for Assessment, and Dissertation-focused modules.
You can select the module that best fits your current needs:
- If you're new to UK academic study → you should choose the Foundations module
- If you're preparing for coursework and assignments → you should choose the Assessment module
Foundations of Academic English
If you are new to studying in English or want to strengthen your core academic skills, these modules focus on:
- Understanding how university study works
- Getting more from lectures and seminars
- Developing academic reading strategies
- Building critical thinking as you study

Academic English for Assessment
If you want to improve your assignments, these modules focus on:
- Understanding assessment tasks and marking criteria
- Planning and structuring your work
- Writing effectively in your discipline
- Using sources and referencing appropriately
- Developing critical argumentation

Dissertation-focused module
If you are preparing your dissertation, you can choose from two stages of support:
Literature Review and Methods
- Understanding dissertation structure
- Writing a critical literature review
- Managing sources and referencing
- Developing methodology sections
Presenting results clearly
- Developing discussion and argument
- Writing effective conclusions
- Editing and refining your work
- Results, Discussion and Conclusion
