The SSLC allows students to have a say on their course, their department and their resources and it is a great way to input into your university.

For each course there are two representatives per cohort.

After reading the manifestos of each candidate, can you please select TWO of the candidates below who you wish to become the representative for your course and cohort.

Edmund Lim

Hello, my name is Edmund Lim, currently a first year undergraduate studying Bsc Accounting and Finance. I am currently active in a number of societies; both academic such as the WBSS or WFS, as well as other more sociable societies such as Warwick MSA and the Anime and Manga society. I am planning on joining the active sport course for archery, and also learning Aikido. I became interested in this role after hearing about the introduction of the Module fair for 2nd and 3rd year, as I was extremely surprised that this has not been done before.
The reason I want to apply for this role is because I feel like I can make a significant difference.  After the first week, I have already experienced problems with timetabling and I can understand how frustrating it is, especially from the perspective of a student. Furthermore, I know how important it is for students to have a voice in their own learning, and I want to represent the students with this objective in mind. Moreover, I excel in leadership roles and I enjoy solving problems with both perseverance and motivation. I personally hope I will be able to obtain this role and represent the students in my course with their learning.

Elaine Looi

I am Elaine Looi, from Malaysia doing Accounting & Finance in Year 1. I believe that everyone has their own potential in bringing out the best in them. I believe that everyone goes towards the direction of their purpose in life. Be it purpose for today, a month to come or a few years to go. We have our goals and we will work our way to make it come true. Here I am standing today trying to make things work, not only for me but for everyone doing the same course as I am. Frankly speaking, I might not be the most affable person that you can find in this community but I will make myself approachable and will make every single effort to help in whatever that you may need. SSLC is the bridge between students and staff and I will play my role in linking these two islands, to receive and convey message with pure honesty and to come up with the best solutions. I believe that in WBS, it is a limitless ground for each one of us to unleash our potential and I hope to be the one that helps you to achieve greater heights by serving the community in every way possible.

Ezzat Amran

The notion of giving a voice to the masses is astounding; I believe this is a huge step forward in the way education is being implemented. My name is Ezzat and I am an Accounting and Finance student. Although, I may not know much about the SSLC apart from just allowing students to have a say in the way we learn, I would like to assure you my enthusiasm for learning would make me a great candidate. I believe that democracy is the most important part of living in a community. It is the cornerstone of modern society, therefore if I were elected I would ensure that the voice of the people would be heard and considered. 
I consider myself an introvert and realize that being in a new environment can be overwhelming. Additionally, I constantly live in fear that other considers my opinions as irrelevant or stupid. However I am not going to let this hinder my opportunity to be vocal, as every teacher would say there is no such thing as a stupid question. This take on life would allow me to relate to most of the cohort who are too shy to share their opinion. Therefore, I am able to shamelessly communicate any of your queries and problem about the course or modules. It is relevant to know that I am socially awkward and welcome weirdness with open arms. Finally, I would always try to be accommodative to any types of queries no matter how strange and I will insure that it would be discuss.

Kabir Sethi

I would like to nominate myself for the SSLC as a Representative as I contribute to benefiting the School of Business with my previously acquired skills. I was the Prefects Representative in my High School Council and the Games Committee (student-teacher decision making body in school). In the process, I inculcated leadership skills, emotional literacy and problem solving. I was elected to be the advisor to the Headmaster by the students and acted as the point of communication between the school prefects and the school staff. I collected proposals from students and helped voice their opinion to the council. This has taught me how to stand up for my peers and efficiently resolve issues as a team.
I am an avid badminton and cricket player. Every time I slipped and fell down on the Badminton court, or hit a six on the Cricket pitch, I learnt the essence of dedication and resilience. I was the first student to have been made the Captain of both these teams in the history of the school, and I led the team to numerous inter-school matches, won the award for Outstanding Cricketer of the Year, and represented my state at the national level in badminton. I had the unique opportunity to share the dais with Brian Lara, one of the most exemplary cricketers of all time! The journey of being in these leadership positions developed my organisational and decision making skills. 
I would like to utilise my abilities towards bringing out the best in my course mates at Warwick. I aim to establish an excellent connection between the staff and fellow students equipped with my mature understanding of the human nature,that I acquired while dealing with students during my term as the Captain of the School Sports Teams. I also availed the opportunity to lead a delegation to the Edwin Barker Conference on Sports Science in Singapore where I interacted with people from different cultures , performed group tasks and participated in various different competitions. I believe that with my immense experience of student government and leadership, I can act as a strong link between the students and the staff. Please vote for me!

Rashid Raiyan

Hello! My name is Rashid Raiyan, a fresher, hailing from Bangladesh and currently studying Accounting and Finance. To start with, I am an ordinary guy but stepping into Warwick I pledged to somehow make an impact between my fellow peers and the respective staff. I am a former intern at British American Tobacco, one of the youngest in my country and also worked at a local CA firm. I have also worked for two charities, one being ESDO and the other AWF. I made it to national football in my country and hurt my ankle, causing me to withdraw, and did experience the bittersweet waves of what we call life. I remember from one of the first meetings at the butter-worth hall, Professor Rachel mentioned being enthusiastic and going for every opportunity because you never know what you are capable of and what God has in store for any of us. I know what I am capable of and what I want to achieve and very much willing to learn from the SSLC or any other society, even if it means failing the first or countless times. I have just been named the Marketing Representative of the Warwick Accounting society and have signed for every society, club that has a place for someone like me. Being the only person from Bangladesh in the entire WBS maybe a bit daunting but it gave me platform to offer a different level of diversity and meeting so many amazing people from all over the world. My friends would characterize me as the most social person around and there is nothing more enjoyable than going up to new faces and getting to know so much about them. At SSLC I would definitely love to take responsibility for the WBS team and doing my level best to speak and toil for their best interest. It just seems so exciting to me and would love to meet even more people especially the lovely SSLC team and getting to learn so much from them, moreover, I reckon they can also learn much from them. 
I would appreciate it if I am allowed even the tiniest role in the community because I simply like to help people and truly believe I can do so. Whether I am selected or not, I would like to say thank you to whoever that took their precious time to read this.

Syed Mohammed Murtaza

I am Murtaza, I moved last week from Karachi to University of Warwick for my undergraduate course Accounting and Finance. I have been to UK for the first time and look to make the most out of my time from opportunities like these. I love to meet new people and like to address tough situations logically. I sense every opportunity to lead as an opportunity to learn. I also feel one of my responsibility is to assist my peers when I am able to do so.
I will love to accept this challenge because in my most recent year at college, 2014-15, I was elected for a similar role (Head of the Student Council) named as Head Boy through 87 out of 160 student votes. This role involved responsibilities like helping the schools event management society in organizing events, lead meetings of student council alongside a Head Girl and be the messenger to deliver student issues to the principal. I also served as an Event Manager of our schools MENSA society during the academic year of 2012-13. My responsibilities included to attend society meetings to plan events and help in organizing them. I have also worked with 4 different volunteer organizations in the last 3 years which helped me develop the sense of altruism. To discuss current issues and present solutions, presenting ideas in a logical manner will be a handy skill. I have worked to develop that skill through my writing, one of my Urdu articles was published in our school magazine of 2012-13 and in 2014, and one sports website published my article online which received almost 4000 views. I believe that all my previous experiences will contribute to help me succeed for the role I am applying for. This is because through these roles, I learned immensely about man management, team work and time management as I managed all these activities with my academics.

Yin Jiachen (Hector)

Hi! All students from Accounting and Finance! My name is Yin Jiachen (Hector) and I wish to become a SSLC representative of Accounting and Finance. I have lots of hobbies, such as table-tennis, reading, listening to music, playing games, and I am now taking tennis courses. I wish that we could have a chance to play together and be friends in the future! I consider that the most important thing to be a rep is to become the bridge between students and staff. For me, a SSLC representative means the bond between students and departments. As a rep, I have the responsibilities to make students voices being heard by teachers and professors. I will represent the whole A&F family to discuss teaching, learning and student support issues with staff to help all A&F students in their school lives. As I come from Shanghai, a large metropolitan city with mixed culture. Therefore, I am sure that I can communicate with different people from different backgrounds. Moreover, I have been as a Model United Nations member in my high school and I have attended the MUN held by Yale University, thus I have a rich experience in having a enjoyable talk with other people. 
Being a rep, I can bring hospitality and enthusiasm to our A&F family. I really have a strong desire to resolve any problems brought forwarded by the family members and bring realistic solutions back to you! Your problems are my problems! I really want to have the chance to create a happy and enjoyable uni-life with all the members in A&F family in Warwick University. I couldnt promise that I will be the best rep, but I can promise that I will make everyone delighted in the uni-life through my hard work and commitment. Please! Vote for me!
