The SSLC allows students to have a say on their course, their department and their resources and it is a great way to input into your university.

For each course there are two representatives per cohort.

After reading the manifestos of each candidate, can you please select TWO of the candidates below who you wish to become the representative for your course and cohort.

Dan Holubar

Hey there! This year, I would like to represent all the students of the International Business course. Let me explain why I have decided to postulate.

Understanding the environment we are in has always been challenging. Especially now when we moved away from our nests to serve a greater purpose as students at University. New people, new system, new ways of learning, and for some of us a new country. Sounds scary. But it sounds exciting as well. New opportunities, new connections, new perspectives. And it is always easier to get to the essential parts with the passive help of someone that can be your wall to lean on whenever in trouble.

My name is Dan Holubář (pronounce it just olubaar), and I am from Prague, Czech Republic. When I was young I used to live in Senegal and in Syria, as my father is a former diplomat. I suppose travelling experience is not a big deal here at WBS, especially when 80% (just a guess) are from abroad. Nonetheless I believe I have the right skills to represent all our cohort. Asking the right questions, being attentive, being a good listener, observer and inquirer. Adapting to new cultures, as I did in my short life, requires these abilities. Furthermore, leadership skills and not being afraid of speaking up are things that have to come through experience. Back in Prague, I played football on a fairly competitive level, and as we moved around Prague, I switched 3 clubs in 4 years. Wherever I played, I managed to become the captain. Hard-work, patience, determination and teamwork are the key ingredients to successfully represent and stand for a small community of people. And I am sure that representing a group of students in front of the staff, where fear has no place (in contrast with respect) is not that different in its basics.

And my weakness? You might have noticed my English is a bit broken. That might be true, but then again, be aware that if I understand what the staff wants, or what the students desire, all the other will understand it perfectly too, as I always double check whenever I have doubts about anything.

Ivan Shishkanov

Hello my name is Ivan Shishkanov, a first year undergraduate student at Warwick Business School studying International Business (Spanish stream)!

I believe that I would fit smoothly and successfully to the role of a student representative, since I have the appropriate characteristics to operate in this role: responsibility, dedication and virtuous analytical skills. This has been reflected in my previous extra-curricular events, where in a team of ten, we managed to operate a successful enterprise in the Young Enterprise competition and win the first rounds. Furthermore, being a prefect at my previous school, I am familiar with the roles that have to be undertaken, thus, I would really look forward for such an opportunity. At the same time, I keep up my knowledge of three languages, play the piano (and some chess) and I am also heavily involved in sport events (Football, Karate etc.). Hence, making friends is not difficult for me and addressing problems within our communities (let alone finding them).

Apart from those characteristics, I find it exciting and essential to engage with other students and staff, and be cooperative, not afraid to take the lead or initiative, if there is a struggle in any situation. For example, putting forward some issues at school on behalf of my fellow students to the head teachers about break times and lesson time during exam term.

This is only the tip of the Iceberg of the attributes that I could bring to the student experience at WBS, therefore, I would appreciate if you would consider profoundly on offering me the role of the student representative for my stream, thank you.

Paula Jimenez Saez

I came to University looking for a new experience, to learn and grow, to prove and be challenged. University is said to be the best time of our lives, but it is not all about parties. Throughout these years we will have to work hard, study and take responsibilities, however, sometimes tasks are not so easily solved. It is very important that if students need help to solve a problem or suggest a change in some aspect of the course, they get the chance to express themselves. It is crucial to have someone that can deliver the message correctly and represent everyone in order to solve it. This the reason why I am applying to be course representative, to speak for the other students in my course and get the chance to unravel their problems.

I am Paula Jiménez Sáez, first year International Business student. I want to have the opportunity to represent all my course mates and communicate any kind of doubt they may have or any problem that might arise. Ive already been representative in my old school of my class mates various years and formed part of the school council. This is why I already have experience in speaking for fellow students, having empathy and understanding their position. A good representative needs to be able to listen and communicate effectively. Thanks to my previous experience, I have been able to develop these attributes and I am willing to challenge myself once again by representing my fellow International Business students. Lastly, I believe that a good rep needs to be able to plan and organize, to have problem solving and decision making skills; qualities which I possess, thus I feel that this representative position is a perfect place for me.
