WBS Undergraduate Scholarship Programme 2020-21

What is the WBS Undergraduate Scholarship Programme?

Warwick Business School are pleased to invite highly motivated WBS offer holders and current WBS Foundation Year students from under-represented backgrounds to apply for the WBS Undergraduate Scholarship Programme.

The WBS Undergraduate Scholarship Programme is a fantastic opportunity not only for applicants to receive financial aid of £2000 per academic year but also to take part in bespoke company, cultural and social events during each year of their degree programme. Previous events have included a visit to Parliament with the Civil Service, a cookery lesson in a professional kitchen and a visit to the EY offices in Birmingham. Whilst on the scholarship programme students benefit from the support of a Personal Tutor as well as the added support from the dedicated Course Director of the Scholarship Programme.

Who is eligible?

In order to be eligible to apply for the WBS Undergraduate Scholarship Programme, you must:

  • Have an offer to study on one of the following WBS undergraduate degrees, starting in September 2020:
    • BSc Accounting and Finance
    • BSc International Business
    • BSc International Management
    • BA Law and Business Studies
    • BSc Management

Alternatively, be a current student on either BSc Accounting and Finance with Foundation Year or BSc Management with Foundation Year progressing in to 1st Year in September 2020.

  • Have a household income as assessed by the Student Funding Team of below £35,001. This will be assessed using a Student Loans Company 'Customer Reference Number.
  • Be resident in the UK and eligible to pay fees at the home rate
  • Be applying to www.gov.uk/studentfinance for assessment for financial support and be in receipt of a Government Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan for the 2012-21 academic year.

Applicants must also satisfy at least one of the following criteria to be considered:

  • Having spent time in local-authority care.
  • Living in a low participation neighbourhood (POLAR 3, quintile 1) or an area which has a high level of deprivation (Index of Multiple Deprivation, 0-20%).*
  • Attending a school where average performance of students achieving 5 A*-C GCSE including English and Mathematics was below the national average and/or attending a school/college with below the national average performance at KS5.**
  • Attending a school or college with above national average entitlement/eligibility to Free School Meals.**
  • Being a first-generation entrant to higher education (i.e. neither parent has attended university).

Terms and Conditions – WBS UG Scholarship Programme

  • Only applicants who have met the criteria listed above are eligible to apply.
  • Only complete applications using the relevant form will be considered.
  • All applications must be supported by one academic reference. If you are an offer holder applying then this reference can be from either a teacher or your Head of Year Group/Head of Sixth Form. If you are a current Foundation Year students applying then this should be an academic member of staff from the Foundation Year. References must be attached to your application upon submission.
  • The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Monday 31st August. Applications received after the closing date/time will not be considered. WBS will not be responsible for any applications that are not received for any reason, by the closing date, whether lost, delayed, corrupted or otherwise, and whether or not due to any technical difficulties or malfunctions.
  • Successful applications will be chosen by a panel. The decision of the panel is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
  • When awarding the scholarships the panel will take the following into consideration: application information, student statement, academic reference and academic results (if you are a current student on the BSc with Foundation Year your results from and engagement in the Foundation Year will also be included).
  • Each scholarship awarded is to the amount of £2,000 per year for the entirety of the student’s studies excluding any time-out for an intercalated year work placement or study abroad, Temporary Withdrawal or Resit without Residence. Funding would therefore typically be for 3 years.
  • Students in receipt of the award are expected to sign an agreement and participate in the activities designed to develop their social capital, personal skills, and employability. Failure to attend compulsory activities may result in the scholarship being withdrawn.
  • WBS reserves the right to change or withdraw the WBS Scholars’ Programme at any time.
