In Autumn 2024, the University of Warwick and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto piloted a virtual ‘Global Classroom’, bringing together students from both institutions to explore cutting-edge critical and feminist research methodologies in education.
Under the guidance of Professor Jo Angouri (UofW) and Dr Carly Manion (UofT), 11 Warwick students participated in the pilot and collaborated with 20 peers from the University of Toronto. Over the course of three, two-hour sessions, students engaged in policy analysis and research in cross-university, cross-disciplinary and cross-level teams. Working with a global lens, they were asked to focus on equity and gender justice. During the last session, groups presented their work and their recommendations to make the policy they had chosen to study more equitable.
For students from both universities, this was a unique opportunity to broaden their knowledge, critical-thinking and research skills, as well as develop their teamwork and intercultural competences.
"The Global Classroom project was an amazing experience and was a great way for us to work with others and learn from peers across the world" (OISE student)
