New test for cancer and diabetes biomarkers 1000x more detailed

A new test for detecting biomarkers for cancer and diabetes is more than 1000x more detailed and 100% faster than existing methods, new research by the University of Warwick suggests.

Developed to undertake a detailed study of collagen, the researchers argue that the same methodology can be used with any protein-based sample and is currently being tested with cancer cells and proteins relevant to Type II diabetes.

Warwick to award Honorary Degree to 'genre contrarian' M John Harrison

The University of Warwick has announced today, Wednesday 16th of December 2015, that it will award an honorary degree of Honorary Doctor of Letters to Warwickshire born science fiction, fantasy, & climbing writer M John Harrison at one of its winter degree ceremony on Wednesday 20 January 2016.

Plants use a molecular clock to predict when they’ll be infected

Plants are able to predict when infections are more likely to occur and regulate their immune response accordingly, new research has found.

Led by the University of Warwick, the researchers discovered that a plants’ molecular clock is connected to their immune system to increase levels of resistance to infection at dawn – the time at which fungal infections appear most likely to occur, with plants unable to maintain the highest level of resistance at all times of day.

Warwick to award honorary degrees to radio Reverend, Olympic rowing coach, dyslexia researcher, author, leading literary critic, and teaching innovator

The University of Warwick has announced today, Wednesday 16th of December 2015, that it will award honorary degrees to six people at its winter degree ceremonies which will run from 20th to 22nd January 2016. Those to be honoured include:

  • Radio and TV cleric The Reverend Richard Coles
  • Warwickshire born science fiction, fantasy, & climbing writer M John Harrison
  • Renowned critic of Latin American fiction Professor Gerald Martin
  • Leading dyslexia researcher Professor Margaret Snowling
  • Olympic rowing coach Mr Paul Thompson MBE
  • Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Teach First Brett Wigdortz OBE
