University of Warwick wins national award for excellence in teaching

The University of Warwick has won a national award recognising excellence in counselling and psychotherapy education, celebrating its commitment to an outstanding student experience and engagement with the local community.

The team behind the BA (Hons) Counselling and the Psychotherapeutic Relationship received the Excellence in Course Delivery award at the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Member Awards on Saturday 10 October.

Cathryn MacLeod, Associate Professor of Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Warwick, said: “We’re incredibly proud to offer a course that combines high-quality teaching with practical experience and a strong connection to the profession. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups, reflecting our commitment to widening participation and creating opportunities for people at different stages of life.

“Through their placements in counselling agencies across Coventry and Warwickshire, our students put their learning into practice while supporting local people and organisations. This helps extend the impact of the course beyond the University and into the wider region.”

The team was recognised by the BACP for its high levels of student satisfaction, its commitment to research culture and opportunities for students to contribute to national research conferences and industry publications. It also founded the annual University of Warwick Counselling and Psychotherapy Research Conference, while embedding anti-oppressive, inclusive and culturally attuned practice throughout the course.
