Dr Rebecca Morris, Associate Professor in Education Studies comments on Union's urge to tackle teacher recruitment crisis

Dr Rebecca Morris, Associate Professor in Education Studies at the University of Warwick said: “Urgent reform is needed to tackle the ongoing, and worsening teacher shortage crisis in England. For too long now, teachers have been underpaid and undervalued, making teaching an undesirable profession for many. If the government are truly committed to ensuring that all children get a great education, then they must ensure that there are enough great teachers in our schools. Improving pay is an important element of this. But they must also fully commit to improving conditions too, including reducing workload, ensuring that schools are safe environments to work in, and supporting teachers to develop and progress in their careers.”
