Warwick academics on UK supermarkets electric car charging report

Professor Peter Gammon, Professor of Power Electronic Devices, University of Warwick, said: “The biggest challenge facing public acceptance and adoption of electric vehicles is the widespread installation of electric vehicle chargers and their associated grid infrastructure. While the UK is making a promising start, EV chargers in supermarkets, our workplaces, and in motorway services will need to move from the exception to the norm, if we are to achieve the ambitious adoption rates required by 2035 and beyond.”

Dr Mona Faraji Niri, energy systems expert at the University of Warwick, said: “Range Anxiety (the fear of running out of battery charge before destination) stands among the significant barriers to the adoption of the EVs in society. Recent development in the battery technology, particularly in fast charging capabilities, supermarket charging infrastructure could present a convenience opportunity for customers even during short shopping trips”.
