Associate Professor David Armstrong on the 'Planetary Parade of six planets
Associate Professor David Armstrong, from the Department of Physics at The University of Warwick, says, "The 'planetary parade' in the sky has multiple planets visible at once. This week there will be six - Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus.
The best time to see the parade in the UK is the night of 21st January, early in the evening just after sunset. You’ll be able to see four of the planets with the naked eye, Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. Neptune and Uranus can be seen with a telescope or strong binoculars. Mars will be a bright red dot near the Eastern horizon, with Jupiter a bit higher up but still on that side of the sky. Saturn and Venus will be close together near the western horizon - look for bright Venus and yellowish Saturn. There are good free apps which can show you the sky from where you are and help you find the planets".
