G7 finance ministers’ meeting: Warwick economist comments
The G7 finance ministers are meeting today, where issues such as a global minimum corporation tax rate and a new tax on big tech firms will be on the table for discussion. Dr Aran Advani from our Department of Economics comments:
“It is great news that we are coming close to an international agreement on corporation tax. This agreement is clearly in the UK interest. It removes pointless competition based on 'tax arbitrage' - attracting companies purely by reducing tax rates. Instead countries will have to attract companies based on things like quality of infrastructure and education of workforce: areas where the UK is strong, and already intends to invest more.”
