Government rhetoric isn’t helping as time runs out for Greece – Dr Dennis Novy

Dr Dennis Novy is an economist from the University of Warwick. He said: "Is Greece going to reach a deal with the Eurozone? That’s the big question, of course.

“Pretty soon the country will have no money left and with both sides currently playing hardball, it’s getting tough. Time is running out.

“The Greek government isn’t helping itself though; on the substance it is right – the troika policies have been a failure, but we’ve also seen a lot of posturing since the election. Yes, it’s a strong mandate because the people in Greece are fed-up, but it doesn’t sit comfortably and it’s a rhetoric that hasn’t done them any favours.

“There is a wider European impact to this and other EU countries are watching closely, but the acute issue is about Greece – the clock is ticking and they must reach an agreement.”
