Italian election results: Expert comment
Dr Fabio Camilletti, Head of Italian Studies at The University of Warwick comments on the outcome of the Italian elections.
“This result was in many ways predictable and it has strong roots in the media coverage of current affairs (especially immigration). The Italian centre-left has been penalized by its attempt to undertake a vast programme of reforms in the country. I do not see immediate threats in terms of relationship with the EU, given that Italy has traditionally always been a pro-EU country, but certainly this vote tells us much about current perceptions of European institutions and their relationship with single countries.”
