Russian anti-satellite missile test: expert comment
James Blake, from the University of Warwick's Centre for Space Domain Awareness, comments on Russia testing an Anti-Satellite Missile. Debris from the explosion is now floating in the near-Earth environment and is said to have put crew on board the International Space Station at risk.
He said: "Actions such as these are irresponsible, polluting the near-Earth environment with yet more debris and slowing the progress that has been made towards achieving a more sustainable use of the space domain. It's important that we move beyond voluntary guidelines and bring into play legally binding regulations on an international scale to deter this kind of behaviour in future."
