Providing his anaylsis of Donald Trump's State of Union address to both Houses of the United States Congress, Dr Ben Margulies of the University of Warwick's Department of Politics and International Studies said:

"Trump attempted a more traditional State of the Union, plugging his policies and achievements and avoiding divisive rhetoric. I think he figured, or his staff did, that his usual populist performance might jar with the setting. The speech is a ritual; nothing will change."
