Kidz Kamp Shortlisted for National Award

Warwick Volunteers' Kidz Kamp project has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award. The first National Student Volunteering Awards ceremony will be held at Old Trafford, Manchester on Friday 5th December. Four student volunteers including last year's Kidz Kamp Project Leaders, Ellen Mellors and Kathy Chan, will be attending to find out if Warwick can pick up the top prize!

The Kidz Kamp project involved taking sixteen 10 year-old children from Longford Park Primary School in Coventry on a five day canal boat holiday last Easter. The project has been recognised because of the benefit it provided children who would otherwise not have that opportunity, and because of the excellent organisation of the student volunteers - who ensured that the holiday was packed full of activities to keep the children occupied.

The Student Volunteering Awards have been established by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC) to reward student volunteers who have shown significant commitment to or exceptional execution of activities funded by the Higher Education Active Community Fund (HEACF). Kidz Kamp was supported by Warwick Volunteers (the University's HEACF funded project) and the Coventry Education Action Zone.

Another Kidz Kamp will be running in Easter 2004.
