Volunteer Interviews for 2012 Olympics at Warwick

Interviews to select thousands of volunteers for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place at Warwick for seven weeks over the summer.

Staff from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) will be based at Warwick from Wednesday 22 June to Monday 8 August, with around 10,000 volunteers expected to attend interviews over the seven week period. Warwick is one of eight venues across the UK to host volunteer selection events.

These interviews are the second stage in the process to be a London 2012 volunteer. In September 2010 the public were invited to apply to become part of the London 2012 Games Maker programme. 250,000 people applied and LOCOG is now selecting an estimated 100,000 people to attend a face-to-face interview for up to 70,000 Games time roles.

Warwick is already playing a key role in the London 2012 Games. It was announced last year that the Ricoh Arena will co-host the Olympic football competition and the University is to provide training facilities for Olympic football teams throughout this period.

Warwick's Director of Physical Education and Sport, Terry Monnington, said:

"It's a fantastic honour for the University to be one of the recruitment venues to select Games Makers for the London 2012 Games. The Games Makers will be crucial to the success of London 2012 and will be the outward face of the Games, so recruiting the right volunteers is key."

If you have any questions about the LOCOG recruitment event, please contact Carolyn Quinney at C.Quinney@warwick.ac.uk who is working with LOCOG on the event. Please be aware the Games Maker application window closed last October, so if you have applied to be a Games Maker please logon to the Games Maker zone to check the status of your application.
