Warwick Student Arts Festival 2012

wsaf-poster_350.jpgCommunity takes the centre-stage on Sunday 24 June as the Warwick Student Arts Festival (WSAF) 2012 opens with collaborative works, bringing the local areas of Coventry and Leamington together with the student body through performance, competition and family-friendly entertainment.

Local groups will be in the spotlight in the Piazza for the Community Creative Arts Competition, featuring performances from Aces Cheer and Dance Club, Rhapsody Academy of Dance, Tile Hill School Choir and Finham Park School Choir.

Meanwhile, children from the Music Theatre Warwick Juniors will present a showcase of their favourite songs, and their Warwick student mentors will later take to the stage to present the MTW Disney Revue. Warwick Glee will be performing in the Students' Union and the Warwick Arts Centre Youth Theatre will be staging a performance of the play 'Mugged' in the Helen Martin Studio.

Throughout the day there'll be a chance for visitors to get involved too, with a mini craft fair, facepainting, a workshop and exhibition from arts and mental health charity Arty Folks and a dance workshop from the StreetVibe student society.

The festival continues until Wednesday 27 June, with each day centred around a different theme:

On Monday you can immerse yourself in an interactive theatre experience in the University Library, enjoy 'Just a Minute Warwick' (based on the infamous Radio 4 show), contribute to a book sculpture or an art mural, or even post a secret on a tree.

Tuesday 26 June: Collaboration

Warwick Student Arts Festival is about celebrating artistic diversity, and this year the organisers are proud to present several collaborative projects.

Warwick Drumming & Warwick Breakdance will be teaming up in a spectacular performance from 10 - 11am on 26 June on the Piazza followed at 5.30pm by Classical & Modern Dance’s collaboration with Warwick Big Band Orchestra. With live music and student choreographed dances, these shows are not to be missed.

Wednesday 27 June: Celebration

The Festival continues with more poetry, music and dance performances and workshops, a short film showcase and even an improvised musical. Performances run from 10am – 10pm.
