Explore Warwick’s Modern Records Centre with the Heritage Open Days

The University of Warwick invites you to embark on a journey through time as part of the national Heritage Open Days festival.

The University’s Modern Records Centre (MRC) will host a special event on Tuesday 10 September and Thursday 12 September to showcase its “Olympics in the Archives” exhibition.

This special exhibition will explore the intersection of sports and politics, revealing the rich sporting heritage preserved within the MRC’s collections. Visitors will have the chance to delve into captivating sporting stories that highlight the diversity and depth of the archives.

Additionally, a dedicated talk will provide insights into the history of the MRC and the unique narratives captured in its records.

Helen Hopper, Archive Manager at the Modern Records Centre, said: “As we celebrate our 60th anniversary of The University of Warwick, the Modern Records Centre is delighted to participate in this year’s Heritage Open Days, inviting the public to explore our rich archival collections.

“We warmly welcome residents and visitors to discover the hidden stories within our archives that have not only shaped our community's heritage but also continue to inspire future generations.”

The MRC houses over 1,500 collections that chronicle pivotal moments in political, economic, and social history, with a special emphasis on industrial relations, political movements, protests, and the individuals who shaped these events.

While visiting the MRC on The University of Warwick campus, visitors are also invited to explore the wider campus offerings, including the Mead Gallery at Warwick Arts Centre, and the modern art Sculpture Trail that winds through the campus grounds.

A guide listing all the venues participating in Heritage Open Days across Coventry, along with their opening times, is available from local libraries and visitor information centres. For more details, visit the Heritage Open Days website.
