100 days to go until the British Transplant Games kick off at the University of Warwick

The University of Warwick will be hosting the 2023 British Transplant Games from July 27th to 30th. This event, which celebrates the incredible achievements of athletes who have received transplants, will be held in partnership with the West Midlands Organ Donation Services and Coventry City Council.

The British Transplant Games is a four-day event that brings together transplant survivors, including children as young as five, from across the UK to compete in a range of sports including athletics, badminton, cycling, swimming, and many more. The games aim to encourage more people to sign up to the organ donor register and to celebrate the gift of life that organ donation can provide.

For the first time ever, the games are coming to Coventry and most of the athletic events will take place at the University of Warwick’s state of the art sports facilities.

Chris Hunt, Commercial Director at the University of Warwick, said: "We are thrilled to be hosting the 2023 British Transplant Games at our campus. This event is a wonderful celebration of the resilience and determination of transplant athletes, and Warwick is proud to support them as they compete and inspire others to become organ donors."

The University of Warwick has a strong history of supporting health initiatives, including medical research and partnerships with the NHS. The university's world-class facilities and beautiful campus make it an ideal location for the British Transplant Games.

Councillor George Duggins, Leader of Coventry City Council, said: "We are delighted that the British Transplant Games are coming to Coventry and that the University of Warwick is hosting this fantastic event. The games are a wonderful opportunity to showcase the city and inspire more people to sign up to the organ donor register. We look forward to welcoming athletes, their families, and supporters to Coventry next summer."

Dr Paul Harden, Chair of Transplant Sport said: “It’s such great news that we can return to Coventry for the games after the postponement in 2020 due to the pandemic. We are all really looking forward to a wonderful event hosted in Coventry as we know the facilities will be first class.”

The 2023 British Transplant Games will be a highlight of the sporting calendar and a celebration of the power of organ donation. The University of Warwick and its partners are committed to making the games a memorable and inspiring event for everyone involved.
