The University of Warwick is set to host a Pride event this summer, for the first time in the University’s history. This year, Coventry Pride is not taking place, so the University campus will welcome students and local communities, for the biggest celebration of the LGBTQ+ community in Coventry this year.

With a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment, this free event supports and honours the LGBTQ+ community, providing a platform for celebration and solidarity. The 'Pride' event will kick off at 2pm, on June 27^th, and will be held on the University Piazza and Students’ Union.

The University will host a variety of community groups as part of the event, including 'Out in the UK,' a group dedicated to aiding LGBTQ+ refugees, some of whom have had to conceal their sexuality in their home countries.

The event will be hosted by final year PhD researcher at the University of Warwick, Ibi Profane, who specialises in drag performances and identity. Joining them will be the talented local DJ, Josh Aldridge, who is set to provide a soundtrack for the festivities. The event will also welcome the star guest and headline act, Ginny Lemon as seen on Ru Paul’s Drag Race, who will grace the stage with their unique and enthralling presence.



Ibi Profane said: “With the increase of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and the massive drop from 1st in the EU for LGBTQ+ rights in 2015 to 17th in 2023, Pride festivals are more important than ever.

“At Warwick, this festival has been organised with belonging and acceptance in mind for everyone, and to let all know they are welcome! It's why we've decided to use #WeAllBelong as our tag, because the queer community and its allies need each other more than ever, and we are exceptionally proud to have such a thrilling day of events lined up for EVERYONE from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, friends, and family to come and enjoy!”

In addition to the range of performances, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of funfair-type activities, including a rodeo bull. Various food stalls will be available, offering award-winning food, and local venues and charity groups will present to raise awareness and discuss what they do in the community.
