The University of Warwick’s Innovation District Chair appointed to UK Industrial Strategy Council
The Rt Hon Greg Clark, Chair of The University of Warwick’s Innovation District, has today been appointed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Secretary of State for Business & Trade, to the Government’s Industrial Strategy Advisory Council.
Business leaders from across the UK have been brought together to offer government independent advice and recommendations as it develops a new, modern Industrial Strategy to support the growth mission.
The strategy will help maintain a pre-business environment to capture a greater share of internationally mobile investment and motivate domestic business to boost their investment and scale up their growth. It will channel support to sectors and geographical clusters that have the highest growth potential for the next decade.
Greg Clark said, “This is a time of great opportunity for innovation to drive prosperity in every part of the UK. The new Industrial Strategy will be crucial in creating the right conditions for innovation and growth. The University of Warwick has long played a pivotal role in turning ideas into jobs to the benefit of the West Midlands region and the UK. I look forward to helping shape the national plan for future success.”
The University of Warwick President and Vice Chancellor Stuart Croft said, “It is a great sign for the future that the Industrial Strategy Council is made up of expertise from across different sectors. For us at Warwick, we are delighted that Greg Clark – who was the originator of the last industrial strategy as Secretary of State – is a core member. The work of the Industrial Strategy will be directly felt in our region, and our University will be at the forefront of that.’
