Lasers, rockets and explosions as Christmas lectures return to Warwick
Lasers, chemical reactions and the biggest explosion allowed in Warwick Arts Centre are among the spectacles promised at this year’s Christmas Lectures at the University of Warwick.
The annual science extravaganza is back for two performances, starting this evening, and will feature live experiments delivered by a cast of experts from across the university.
Ally Caldecote from physics, who organises the lectures, said: “As always we’ll be delivering plenty of scientific fun in our interactive, hands-on, engaging stage shows suitable for anyone from age eight to 108!
“It's so important to share the knowledge and enthusiasm that we have within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine at Warwick. I am lucky to work with some of the world's finest minds so I am delighted to put them on stage to share with the public some of the mind bogglingly brilliant work they do – and it’s a lot of fun too!
“There are still a few tickets left so why not join us for an evening of scientific and explosive endeavour!”
The first performance which takes place this evening, Tuesday 26 November, sees scientists and technicians from the physics and chemistry departments present a night of lasers and explosive experiments. They’ll be asking questions like: Which chemicals deserve to be on Santa’s naughty list and why is light so important to life on earth?
The second performance, on Tuesday 3 December, sees scientists from the physics department and WMG present some wild and wacky experiments. Find out how the laws of physics work in a cartoon universe and ask - is there a polymer in your pocket? Plus you can find out what they will explode live on stage.
