Monash Warwick Alliance renewed for further five years
- University of Warwick and Monash University renew Alliance for five more years
- Monash Warwick Alliance has recently won two prestigious awards
- Research collaboration, education partnerships and student mobility will continue
Top British and Australian researchers will continue to collaborate, after a new five year agreement was signed between the University of Warwick, UK and Monash University, Australia on Tuesday 6 December.
The Operating Agreement - renewing the Monash Warwick Alliance - will encourage partnerships in research and education to carry on between the two institutions, allow students from Warwick and Monash to study on the other side of the world, and foster new opportunities.
The Alliance has generated global acclaim – recently having been awarded the ‘International Education Award’ at the 2016 Australian Financial Review Higher Education Awards.
Within days of that accolade, the Alliance also won the ‘Excellence in Innovation in Partnership and International Engagement’ at the Victorian International Education Awards in Melbourne, Australia.
Over the next year, almost 90 Warwick students from across 16 departments will study at Monash - with almost 70 Monash students, in turn, coming to Warwick.
In 2016, over 1000 students have engaged in Alliance activities, with over 100 participating in student exchange.
Thanks to the Alliance, there are currently 19 students enrolled on joint PhD programmes at both Warwick and Monash. They study a broad spectrum of subjects, including Philosophy, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, Law, Film & TV Studies, and Theatre Studies.
Furthermore, there are over 50 members of staff across both institutions who hold honorary or adjunct positions at the other university - and so far, over 600 academics have been involved in 64 Alliance supported projects.
Several joint professorships have been introduced during the Alliance, to head up signature collaborations in diverse research fields – from nanotechnology to healthcare implementation.
During the new five year term – January 2017 to December 2021 – Warwick will devote up to £3m per year of the agreement to the Alliance, with Monash equaling the amount.
Professor Stuart Croft, the University of Warwick’s Vice-Chancellor and President, comments:
“The Monash Warwick Alliance has already forged strong ties between our two universities, allowing dynamic collaborative research between two continents, and fostering global student mobility. I am delighted that we are renewing our partnership, and look forward to the new opportunities that the next five years will bring.”
Notes to editors:
The Monash Warwick Alliance was launched in 2012, as a response to global 21st century challenges which require international cooperation and thinking to address.
As young, ambitious, research-led institutions, our Alliance empowers us to meet the needs of industry, government and globally mobile students, who require international experience to exploit new opportunities and tackle world-relevant and strategically important problems.
