Warwick Arts Centre – the largest complex of its kind in the UK outside London – today (Thurs 8 Mar 2001) welcomed the latest funding announcement from West Midlands Arts.

The confirmation of funding levels for theatre for the next four years sees an overall increase of some 36% for the Arts Centre with the vast majority of increased sums being made available in 2003/04.

Welcoming the news, Warwick Arts Centre’s new Director, ALAN RIVETT commented:

“We are pleased with this latest decision from West Midlands Arts as it acknowledges the intrinsic value of theatre and the contribution it makes to the quality of life for people living in the region. Presenting the very best work from around the world raises the quality threshold within the region and this increase is an endorsement of everything we have achieved over the last few seasons - including last month’s outstanding performance by Peter Brook’s Parisian company, the Theatre des Bouffes du Nord. We have big plans for co-production and for presenting the best of theatre for children and families in the region. We can now think ahead creatively.”

“Now that the flow of new funding has begun for theatre from the Arts Council, we look forward to further increases in support of the full range of theatre, music, dance and visual arts we present here which are meat and drink to our programme.”
