Warwick Adopts Singapore Team at International Children's Games

The University of Warwick is to officially "adopt" the Singapore team at the International Children's Games which starts in Coventry this Wednesday 6th July 2005.

The University of Warwick is providing ?255,000 in support for the Games making it the largest sponsor outside Coventry City Council itself. As a major sponsor the University is also adopting a visiting team welcoming them to the city and helping them maximize their visit.

The Singapore team of 9 swimmers and 2 table-tennis players all study at the Singapore Sports School. The Singapore Sports School started in 2004 aimed at helping elite youth athletes balance both studies and sports. This is the second time the Singapore contingent is participating at the International Children's Games.

Last year the Singapore team won one gold and one bronze medal in swimming. The University of Warwick have invited the Singapore team to a lunch to officially welcome them at 12.30pm on Thursday 7th of July in the National Grid Room in the University of Warwick Arts Centre. Journalists are welcome to that lunch but please let us know in advance if you wish to come.

The International Children's Games is a recognized member of the Internationl Olympic Committee. Over 2000 competitors, officials and delegates spanning 50 nations and 5 continents will attend the 2005 Games in Coventry.
