Staff at the University of Warwick are among the winners of the 2022 National Teaching Fellowship Scheme and Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence announced by Advance HE today.

Fifty-four new National Teaching Fellows are awarded along with 16 winning CATE teams.

The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) celebrates and recognises individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in higher education. The Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) recognises and rewards collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning and highlights the key role of teamwork in higher education.

Professor Georgia Kremmyda from the School of Engineering has been made a National Teaching Fellow, while the Learning Design Consultancy Unit has been awarded a Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence.

Georgia Kremmyda, as an engineer and educator, is passionate about enhancing the quality of life for present and future generations. Georgia is a transformative educator, senior leader of curriculum development and wider strategic change, leading interdisciplinary, interprofessional initiatives which are breaking fresh ground in STEM education, featuring active and blended learning models.

The Learning Design Consultancy Unit, led by Jess Humphreys, brings together academic developers, academic technologists and experts from across the University of Warwick to support colleagues in the design of online and blended teaching and learning. The LDCU encompasses an active community of practice and provides collaborative approaches to sharing practice, support and inspiration.

Professor Letizia Gramaglia‚ Head of Academic Development and Director of the Warwick International Higher Education Academy (WIHEA) at the University of Warwick, said: “This is a tremendous achievement for the University and for the individual colleagues whose excellent work is being recognised though the most prestigious national awards in education. I‘m delighted to welcome Georgia into the NTF community and I am absolutely thrilled to see the LDCU, led by my wonderful colleague Jess Humphreys, receive the first CATE award for Warwick.”

Professor Chris Hughes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) at the University of Warwick, said: “This a great haul of awards for our colleagues and demonstrates the excellence of teaching quality at Warwick. Georgia is an inspirational NTF in her discipline and the SEM Faculty, and the award of the CATE is a fabulous recognition of the role of the LDCU and Jess Humphreys in leading Warwick’s development of blended learning during and beyond the pandemic.”

Alison Johns, Chief Executive, Advance HE said, “Congratulations to each and every new National Teaching Fellow and CATE team on this fantastic achievement.

“At Advance HE, we run the prestigious NTF and CATE awards for the UK higher education sector with enormous pride. The challenges of offering an outstanding teaching experience in recent years have been very demanding, but the sector has risen to the challenge.”
