University of Warwick achieves top recognition for Degree Apprenticeship assessments

The University of Warwick has received the highest possible rating in a recent quality assurance review by the Office for Students (OfS) for its role as an End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) for integrated degree apprenticeships.

The review, which focused on Warwick’s Advanced Clinical Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship, was part of the OfS’s remit to ensure EPAOs meet relevant Apprenticeship Standards. It assessed the quality of End Point Assessments, the support provided to apprentices, and the overall effectiveness of the programme.

Following an in-depth review and an on-site visit in January, Warwick was awarded an Outstanding rating, recognising its programme as exceeding national standards.

Jackie Whitehouse, Head of Work-Based & Professional Learning and lead for the OfS monitoring visit, said: “This outcome is exceptional. We had just successfully undergone our first full Ofsted inspection, achieving an Overall Effectiveness of ‘Good,’ and were surprised to receive the notification from the Office for Students (OfS). However, the team collaborated brilliantly, and we were keen to demonstrate our commitment to the apprentices on the ACP programme.

“The team from the Warwick Medical School provided such detailed documentation, for which they were commended by OfS Assessors during the visit. We could not have hoped for a better outcome, and this result is a testament to the co-creation of work-related learning between our apprentices, our employers, and our staff.”

Inspectors praised Warwick’s approach to assessment, ensuring apprentices graduate with the skills and knowledge required for their profession. They also highlighted the University’s strong partnerships with employers, the high quality of teaching, and the exceptional support available to apprentices throughout their studies.

Helen Nolan, Director of Quality at Warwick Medical School, added: “Having participated in a rigorous and constructive review of our end point assessment, we are delighted to receive such a positive outcome that recognises the high-quality and effective learning experience provided for our learners.”

With a significant number of integrated degree apprenticeships, Warwick’s Outstanding rating as an EPAO is a testament to the university’s commitment to providing high-quality learning and supporting apprentices through the final stages of their qualification.
