University of Warwick Named Top UK University for Gamers

The University of Warwick has been officially recognized as the best UK university for gamers, following a conprehensive study by Independent Advisor Broadband.

This is the sixth year running where Warwick has been ranked ‘Esports University of the Year’. 

This accolade comes as searches for ‘game developer qualifications’ have soared by 250%, reflecting a growing interest for careers in the gaming industry.

The award comes at a pivotal time for Esports at Warwick and throughout the region. The gaming industry contributes over £1.5 billion to the West Midlands economy, with Warwick’s recently re-opened £4 million Esports centre helping to launch the careers of tomorrow’s Esports champions. 

The study evaluated universities based on several criteria, including the number of Esports competitors, Discord community members, and the availability of gaming courses.  

The University of Warwick excelled in all categories, securing the top spot with an impressive overall performance.

The University of Warwick stands out with its six Esports University of the Year Awards and numerous other accolades with over 1,000 Esports competitors and more than 2,000 active Discord members.

Warwick Esports, the student society, is renowned for its skilled players and strong sense of community, making it a premier destination for gaming enthusiasts.

Theo Dhillon, Vice President of the Esports society said, “This year, Warwick Esports has continued to thrive both competitively and as a community. We were named “Esports University of the Year” for the sixth year running, as well maintaining our success in both NSE and University Esports competitions.  

Over 80 teams participated across several titles, with several teams going on to win their respective tournaments! We have big plans moving forward and are looking forward to achieving even more over the coming year.” 

Rachel Sadler, an expert from Independent Advisor Broadband Deals said, “University Esports societies have grown increasingly popular in recent years. There are now around 135 universities throughout the UK with some form of presence within the Esports community. These societies are a great way for students to meet new people and socialise while playing some of their favourite games, whether this is competitively or casually.”
