Warwick Engineering Professor works with Association of British Chinese Professors to buy PPE equipment for 10 UK hospitals

Professor Jihong Wang, from the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick, has been working with the

Association of British Chinese Professors (ABCP), where she is Vice President for Finance, to raise funds to purchase personal protection equipment (PPE) for ten UK hospitals to support the NHS in its response to the Covid-19 pandemic. With the joint effort of all the ABCP members and associated members across the UK, the following has been achieved so far:

  • 1000 FFP2 face masks, donated to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London
  • 1000 FFP2 face masks, donated to UCL Hospital London
  • 400 FFP2 face masks, donated to St Mary Hospital, Imperial College London
  • 3500 safety goggles and 7000 full face visors donated to seven hospitals in London, Cambridge, Birmingham and Coventry.

Business School have also made great contributions to this ABCP donation action.

In addition, Jihong is encouraging her friends and graduates in China to support the UK in fighting Covid-19 outbreaks. One of her friends has sent 50 hazmat suits to UCL Hospital London and another friend sent 100 FFP2 face masks to Coventry and Warwickshire CCG’s, which will be used for community workers who collect COVID-19 patients from hospitals, as their personal donation.

Professor Jihong Wang, from the School of Engineering, University of Warwick comments:

“In times as testing as these it’s important to come together to help as much as possible. It’s been an honour for me to help get some more PPE equipment to UK hospitals, and see other Chinese Professors from Engineering, the Warwick Medical School and Warwick Business School get involved too.

“It was also important to me to reach out to my friends and graduates in China, as now they are coming out of their lockdown measures they can send equipment to help us fight covid-19.”

Chancellor (China) at the University of Warwick adds:

“This is a pandemic, meaning all countries have to help each other to fight the virus. It is great to see the ABCP made a joint effort, and Professor Wang using her contacts in China, to help the UK key workers in the NHS treat people suffering with Coronavirus, the donation of hazmat suits and face masks are invaluable right now to protect those saving our lives.”
