Fancy tasting ice cream made with liquid nitrogen, building a wind turbine or dancing like a sound wave? Youngsters with a passion for science will be able to enjoy some real-life experiments at the University of Warwick’s Science Gala next week.

The free public event, which takes place on Wednesday 5 February, will allow the public inside some of the University’s scientific facilities, as well as offering a hands-on experiences for children, young people or anyone interested in finding out more about science and technology.

Organiser, Natacha Borrel, said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming people to our annual science extravaganza again this year, highlighting inspiring careers and exciting science. Visitors will be able to get involved in lots of activities and hands-on demos including exploring the human skull, trying computer-controlled chemistry, or playing with augmented and virtual reality to understand the tiny particles that permeate the universe.

“As well as chatting to professors, staff and students at the University and learning about exciting careers in science, this year we’ll be treated to a performance from Sam Gregson, a physicist and science comedian, who will be presenting CERN’s interactive comedy show. Bring a smartphone or a tablet!”

As well as projects from science departments across the University of Warwick, the event will also host exhibits and workshops from organisations including Engineers without Borders and Women in Engineering Society, Flux and the Lanchester Interactive Archive. Visitors can also visit the University’s planetarium, explore some of the science laboratories and also enjoy a free burger.

The event runs from 17.00 until 20.30 on Wednesday 5 February in the Science Concourse at the University of Warwick’s main campus.
