As Warwick celebrates its 60th year, we hope you can join us to showcase and celebration our outstanding research and impact undertaken by staff, students and working with partners.
Our research and impact focuses on making the world a better place and our Research Celebration event on Monday 7 April will centre around how our ongoing research supports the UK Government’s five key missions:
Make Britain a clean energy superpower – Innovating in green technologies to cut costs and accelerate net zero.
Take back our streets – Supporting efforts to reduce crime and strengthen public trust.
Break down barriers to opportunity – Shaping education and social policies for equal access to opportunity.
Build an NHS fit for the future – Improving healthcare outcomes and ensuring a healthier future for all.
The programme will feature presentations and videos from across our three Faculties; Arts; Science, Engineering & Medicine; and Social Sciences including some of our cross disciplinary programmes, a panel discussion on future challenges and opportunities, and awards to specifically recognise colleagues who have excelled in different aspects of research.

Discussion on societal changes and expectations around the future. Thinking about the government missions, we ask our panel: what are the key priorities for the future?
Meet the panel:
Fajli Bibi
Fajli is an internationally recognised authority on sustainable development, having spearheaded transformative initiatives across the public, private and non-profit sectors. As President of GSI, she leads initiatives that embed sustainability, Net Zero, and inclusive leadership into businesses, governments, and institutions worldwide.
Fajli was the industry leader on the circular economy and social value in transport research, where she collaborated with two universities and the West Midlands Department for Transport to advance sustainable infrastructure solutions. She is also is a prominent advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion, hosting the Empowered Women TV Show, where she amplifies the voices of influential leaders, policymakers, and changemakers worldwide. In addition, She holds leadership roles as a Chair, Non-Executive Director, and Board Member, including at the Greater Birmingham Global Chamber of Commerce, where she promotes sustainability and equity in strategic decision-making.
A respected global thought leader, Fajli has previously addressed audiences at prestigious platforms such as BIM World Copenhagen and BIM World Munich, and she will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Global Sustainability Leaders Summit in Istanbul this June.
Greg Clarke
Former Cabinet Minister Greg Clark previously held a number of senior roles in Government and was the originator of the last Industrial Strategy. Greg also sits on the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Advisory Council, helping to create the right conditions for innovation and growth.
As Chair of Warwick Innovation District, Greg will oversee key developments and opportunities for the University of Warwick to deliver transformative and positive change regionally, nationally, and internationally, fostering collaboration across different institutions that work together to tackle real-world challenges, including global sustainability goals.
Andy Hardy
Prior to appointment as CEO in 2010, Andy was Chief Finance Officer of UHCW, as well as Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
He also sits on a number of boards including NHS Elect, West Midlands Academic Health Science Network and Chair of University Hospitals Association. Andy has been Professor of Industry at the University of Warwick since 2016.
Kirstie Haywood
Kirstie is part of the University’s Research Executive, leading on Research Culture, and Director of the National Centre for Research Culture. Kirstie has been an active and engaged member of the University for more than 15 years, with leadership experience across research, education, and equality, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) portfolios.
Kirstie has demonstrable experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary research on both national and international platforms.

Nick Harrison
Nick joined the Sutton Trust as CEO in May 2023. The Trust has worked to level the playing field since 1997 to improve access to high-quality education and employment opportunities for every young person to have the chance to succeed in life regardless of background and circumstances.
Nick was formerly Chief Growth Officer for MATCHESFASHION, the global online retail company. Prior to that, he spent most of his career as a consultant withOliver Wyman, one of the world’s leading management consulting firms, where he was a partner. He also sits on the Social Metrics Commission, which addresses the definition of poverty and its alleviation.
Paul Joyce
Superintendent Paul Joyce has 30 years policing experience within West Midlands Police. As an accredited PIP 3 & 4 senior investigator he has experience across a wide range of policing disciplines, including Organised Crime, Homicide and Counter Terrorism operations. His current posting is the Commander of policing for the City of Coventry, where he leads the policing response within very diverse and challenging communities.
Robin Teverson
Robin is a member of the House of Lords, where he is a respected expert in the green energy sector who has been heavily involved in energy and climate change policy. He chaired the House of Lords’ EU Energy & Environment Select Committee, is a Trustee of the Government’s ‘Green Share’ in the privatised Green Investment Bank and is a board member of the think tank Policy Connect which focuses on sustainability issues.
Robin is an Honorary Fellow of the Institute for Global Sustainable Development at Warwick. He was previously a member of the European Parliament representing Cornwall and Plymouth, and he has also had a successful career in the distribution and logistics industry.
Sarah Windrun
Sarah is a technology business founder and investor leading the development of MIRA Tech Park’s future mobility cluster in the Midlands. She was previously chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and is currently the Chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce’s North Warwickshire Local Business Forum. She is also a member of the Midlands Engine Digital Board and the West Midlands Combined Authority Innovation Board supporting digital transformation and securing investment to improve economic and social outcomes across the region. Sarah is also a Regional Fellow with Warwick Institute of Engagement.
