Requesting Access to the Photoemission RTP

  • In the left-hand menu, select "Search Resources".
  • Click on the Facilities tab at the top of the screen.
  • Next to Photoemission Spectroscopy RTP, click on "Request Facility".

Accessing Instrument Calendars

  • Once your request to access the RTP has been approved, you will be able to request access to specific instruments.
  • Select "Instruments" in the left-hand menu.
  • Ensure that the drop-down in the top-right has "Photoemission Spectroscopy RTP" selected.
  • The instrument on which the majority of experiments are performed is the Kratos Axis Ultra DLD. For surface science experiments requiring in-situ surface modification, the Omicron Multiprobe is more suitable. Click on the "Request Access" button for the instrument you require access to. You can also request access to the inert transfer equipment if you have air-sensitive samples.

Submitting Experimental Requests

  • Click on the "Sample Submissions" link in the left-hand menu.
  • Ensure that the drop-down in the top-right has "Photoemission Spectroscopy RTP" selected.
  • Select the XPS/UPS Analysis Request Form.
  •
  • Complete the form with as much information as possible, especially noting all of the elements you want to look for in each sample. Select the Kratos Axis Ultra DLD as your instrument, unless you require LEED, annealing or use of the preparation chamber on the Omicron instrument.
  • The RTP staff will liaise with you to arrange for an appropriate time/date for sample drop-off / collection and data acquisition.
  • The RTP staff will reserve the instrument on your behalf and provide an estimated cost through InfinityX.
  • Please note that repeated cancellations at short notice or no-shows may be charged two hours of instrument time.
