Estelle Thompson

Born: 1960. Nationality: British.

Estelle Thompson was born in West Bromwich and studied at Sheffield City Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art. She lives and works in London. Teaching has been an important adjunct to her art practice, she has held posts at St Martin's School of Art, De Montford University and the Ruskin School of Art and the Royal College of Art; since 1996, she has been a part-time lecturer at the Slade School of Fine Art.

Typically in her work Thompson uses a rigorous process using bands or fields of colour to create visually complex and luminous abstract paintings.

Examples of her work have been acquired by a number of major collections including the British Museum, the Arts Council, the British Council and the New York Public Library.
