Gary Wragg

Gary Wragg was born in High Wyckham, England and studied at Camberwell College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art. He is an abstract artist whose practice reflects constant revision and rethinking; in the 1960s the American Abstract Expressionism had a strong influence on his work characterised by spontaneous, gestural mark making and vivid colouration. Since then the visual language he has developed has subtly shifted to and fro influenced by his strong interest in the art of the past, so that, while remaining resolutely abstract, his paintings contain responses to past masters as varied as Titian, Goya, Cézanne, Bonnard, Matisse and de Kooning.
