Tilson trained at the Royal College of Art in London in the 1950s and became associated with the British Pop Artists in the 1960s. His work from this period is referential, drawing on popular history, myth and legend and is strongly influenced by pre-historic archaeology and the classical world. Ziggurat is one of a series of prints of the same name. All of the prints in this series explore a tiered pyramid shape, although each representation is distinct and the pyramid is viewed from a different angle in every work.
