John Kenneth Long

Born 1924, Liverpool. Died 2006.

John Kenneth Long trained at Manchester College of Art where his studies were interrupted by the War and active service in the Royal Navy. He taught painting and drawing at Barnsley School of Art from 1949-56 and Nottingham College of Art from 1956. In 1955 he won the competition Industrial Britain, promoted by Richard Thomas and Baldwins Limited, and his winning painting was reproduced in The Studio in November 1957. In that year his first solo show was organised by the University of Nottingham, with an introduction by Alistair Smart. His main subject matter was the industrial landscapes of Barnsley and Nottingham.
