Blue 230 by Kajt Kapolka

Blue 230 by Kajt Kapolka

Gift from the estate of Penelope Rosenberg.

Blue 230 Is an example of a Kapolka painting which was clearly influenced by Josef Albers - artist, theoretician and teacher who carried out exhaustive experiments into the relationships between colours; his major series of works Homage to the Square (1950-1975), together with the publication in 1963 of his book Interactions of Colour had a profound influence on generations of artists.

Two other works by Kapolka (in the collection of the West Middlesex University Hospital) bear the titles Homage to the Circle I and II. Like these paintings Blue 230 consists of superimposed geometric planes of colour, creating shimmering chromatic contrasts as well as the illusion of spatial variations within the two-dimensional field.
