Melanie Manchot
Born 1966, Witten, West Germany.
Melanie Manchot studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, France in 1987 before going to the International Center of Photography in New York in 1988-89, the City University from 1989-90 and then the Royal College of Art in London from 1990-92.
In 1991 she won the Speyhawk Award, in 1992 she won the Chesterton Award and was joint winner of the Fuji Award. She has taught at Middlesex University and at the Royal College of Art.
Her work has been included in the exhibitions Treading a Fine Line at the Zelda Cheatle Gallery in 1991, the South Bank Photo Show in 1994 and the John Kobal Photographic Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London in 1995-6. Solo exhibitions in 2002 include ArtSway in the UK and the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art which was the start of the first US tour of her work and was accompanied by a monograph published by Prestel.
Her work is included in the Saatchi Collection, London.
