Green Painting by Stefan Knapp

Green Painting by Stefan Knapp

During his career Knapp executed many mural decorations in and on major buildings all over the world, including Terminals 2 and 4 at Heathrow Airport. One of his American commissions, for Alexanders' White Plains Store in 1967, was the longest mural in the world - 1500 yards long and made up of 450 panels. 'Green Painting', like many works by the artist, is executed in fired enamel on metal, a medium and technique facilitating the production of large-scale, durable works which can be effectively integrated into architecture. His work tends to be abstract, often influenced by natural, organic forms expressed in pure, bright colours. 'Green Painting' consists of five panels and presents an animated, arched form which leads the viewer's eyes in a dramatic sweep across the picture plane.
