Alan Cristea Gallery has reported the death today of the artist Gillian Ayres.

We have three works by Gillian Ayres in the collection. Two prints and the painting Skudia from 1994 a rich impasto work which was purchased with the assistance of the Friends of the Mead in 1996. Gillian was the only female artist to be included in the 'Situation' exhibitions of the 1960s. Read More 

Artist in the collection Hurvin Anderson has been nominated for this year's Turner Prize. We have a portfolio of prints and a painting by Hurvin and will be keeping our fingers crossed that he wins.

Sadly the artist Mary Fedden has died at the age of 96. We have five works in the collection by Mary Fedden two of which were gifts from Mary to the University. The most recent gift was given in 2003, a pencil and wash work which features a mug belonging to her husband, the artist Julian Trevelyan, who died in 1988.
