Digital Storytelling at Digifest ‘25
Sunil Chudasama, Faculty Digital Learning Consultant for Social Sciences attended Digifest and shares what happened at one of the sessions.
"My colleague Nadine Stewart and I attended one of the smaller sessions about digital storytelling at this year’s Digifest. It was facilitated by Chris Thomson from JiscLink opens in a new window. As we gathered around the table of images, Chris asked us to imagine a personal story about transformational change from any aspect of our life that we would be willing to share. Then to pick 3 images that help illustrate this story.
Once we selected the pictures, on the back of them was who the image was attributed to, an artist, photographer or AI. We were asked to reflect on how much difference does it make to the telling of our story that some images were not created by a human.
It was interesting to hear different people's perspective on this, some didn’t mind at all, to some who thought it changed the authenticity of their stories.
I think Chris summed it up perfectly with the following quote."
"In short, storytelling is a humanising act and when we're surrounded by tech that is trying to automate an increasing amount of our lives and learning, I think it's becoming more important."
